Child Safety Standards
Last updated: 22 September 2026
Yawr has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). Yawr is an adults-only service. Nobody under 18 may create an account or use the service, and we act on every credible report of content or conduct that endangers a child.
Our prohibition
The following are absolutely prohibited on Yawr, and are grounds for immediate and permanent removal without warning:
- ✕ Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in any form, including audio
- ✕ Sexualising, or describing in a sexual way, any person under 18
- ✕ Grooming — building a relationship with a minor for the purpose of sexual exploitation or abuse
- ✕ Soliciting, offering, producing or distributing sexual content involving a minor
- ✕ Sextortion, or threatening to share intimate material of a minor
- ✕ Trafficking a minor, or advertising a minor for any sexual purpose
- ✕ Creating an account on behalf of, or allowing the use of an account by, anyone under 18
This applies to every part of the service without exception: live voice calls, recorded voice stories, display names, profile text and any message sent to our support channels.
Keeping minors off the service
- Every account states a date of birth at signup. Accounts under 18 are rejected by our servers, not only by the app.
- Yawr is rated for adults on the app stores it is distributed through, and we use the store-level controls available to us to restrict access by minors.
- Every user who receives calls additionally completes a spoken voice verification before they can appear on the service.
- If we have reason to believe an account holder is under 18, we suspend the account and delete its data.
How to report a child safety concern
You do not need an account to report to us, and you do not need to be sure — report it and let us investigate.
- In the app: open any call, conversation or voice story, choose Report, and select Child safety concern. This category is routed separately from other reports and is reviewed as a priority.
- By email: write to our child safety contact below. This address is monitored specifically for these reports.
Reports are confidential. We do not tell the reported person who reported them.
What we do when we receive a report
- Child safety reports are placed at the front of our moderation queue and are reviewed ahead of all other report types.
- Where a report concerns a voice story, the recording is preserved for review even if the story has since expired or been replaced, so a complaint is never closed simply because the content aged out.
- Where we find a violation, we remove the content and permanently terminate the account. We do not issue warnings for CSAE.
- We preserve the relevant account and content records as evidence, rather than deleting them, for as long as is necessary to support an investigation.
- We report apparent child sexual abuse material to the appropriate authorities, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and Indian law enforcement, as applicable law requires, and we cooperate with lawful requests from them.
Legal compliance
Yawr complies with applicable child safety laws in the jurisdictions where it operates, including India's Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the rules made under it, and — where applicable to us — reporting obligations to NCMEC.
Child safety point of contact
These standards are maintained by a designated child safety point of contact, who is responsible for our CSAE process and is the person regulators, platforms and users should reach for anything on this page:
For matters that are not about child safety, please use our Contact Us page or our Grievance Redressal process instead, so this channel stays clear.
